As an applicant or employee who is undergoing the background investigation process, you may have questions. What forms do I need to complete? Why are my neighbors being asked questions about my character? How often do I have to undergo an investigation?

The Office of Personnel Management, Federal Investigative Service (OPM-FIS) has redesigned its website to provide information for the applicant and employee to help you understand the investigation process. We will continue to update the information and add additional resources. In the meantime, if you are unable to find an answer to your question on the OPM-FIS website, your employing or sponsoring Federal agency may be able assist you. If you are not sure who to contact at your agency, please contact OPM's Systems Access Support Team (SAST) at (724) 795-5612, extension 4600. SAST can help you find the right contact within your agency.
