NHLBI Sponsored Course: Genetic Approaches to Complex Heart, Lung, and Blood Diseases
This intensive, 9-day course is designed for the young investigator just beginning her/his career or the more established investigator wishing to move in a new direction. Emphasis is placed on how to characterize gene function using the latest in biochemical and molecular genetic techniques. Application deadline: August 9, 2004

ATP III Update 2004: Implications of Recent Clinical Trials for the ATP III Guidelines
Since the publication of ATP III, 5 major clinical trials of statin therapy with clinical end points have been published. These trials addressed issues that were not examined in previous clinical trials of cholesterol-lowering therapy. The present document reviews the results of these recent trials and assesses their implications for cholesterol management.

Fifth Annual Public Interest Organization Meeting (Summary), February 2004
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) convened its fifth annual public interest organization meeting to encourage and promote public input and involvement in Institute activities. Approximately 130 individuals participated in the 1-day meeting. They included members of more than 65 public interest organizations, as well as representatives from professional societies, voluntary health agencies, the NHLBI, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Advisory Council (NHLBAC).

From Public Advocacy To Research Priorities, NHLBI Listens And Responds
The booklet provides a brief history of how the NHLBI has worked with public interest organizations over the years to develop and support research programs to address a wide range of diseases.
