TSA Pre✓™ has Arrived

Dulles International is the first airport in the country to have a separate checkpoint dedicated to "TSA Pre-Check." The checkpoint, which offers expedited screening benefits, is centrally located at the rear of the departures (ticketing) level (behind Harry's Tap Room). Eligible TSA Pre✓™ passengers include U.S. citizens flying on participating airlines as well as those who are members of CBP Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS. Individuals interested in participating can apply by visiting www.globalentry.gov.

Real-Time Security Wait Times Now Available - Click here!

Dulles has a new video analytics system that automatically calculates wait times at the Main Terminal’s east and west security mezzanine checkpoints. The wait times are displayed in real time in the terminal and here on the website. Click here to view wait times on your smartphone. Since both mezzanines are connected beyond security, passengers have the option to select the line with the shorter wait.

New Ramp to I-495 Now Open

Traffic driving eastbound from Dulles International towards Washington, D.C. has a new direct connection to the Capital Beltway (I-495), northbound and southbound. Traffic no longer needs to to exit to the Dulles Toll Road and cross multiple highway lanes to reach the Beltway. Just remain on the Dulles Airport Access Highway and follow the overhead signs to I-495 north or south. Click here to view a map of the new ramp.

Ethiopian Airlines Flies First Commercial Boeing 787 flight to Dulles

Ethiopian Airline's first ever commercial flight of the Boeing 787 landed on August 15. Congratulations to the "Discover Dulles" participants who witnessed this historic event up close. The new aircraft will soon begin regular service on Ethiopian's Dulles - Addis Ababa route.

Arts Program News

  • Wall for Peace 2011 On Display at Dulles
    Dulles Airport has DC-based artist Anil Revri’s Wall for Peace 2011 sculpture on display in Concourse A/B. The 7 feet long, 6 ½ feet high art piece, encourages religious and social tolerance throughout the world and continues this effort at the Airport, a hub of international travel activity. The artwork will be on display until March 2013.
  • Photography Exhibit at The Gateway Gallery in Concourse C - The current exhibit, "The Big Picture: APhotography Exhibition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the IDB Cultural Center, is a photographic exhibit comprised of 44 striking images which reflect Latin America's and the Caribbean's variety of styles, cultural wealth and diversity, as seen through the lens of 22 leading contemporary photographers from 13 countries. The photographic exhibition is organized by the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Airports Authority Arts Program. The Gateway Gallery is located in the connector walkway between the AeroTrain C-Gates station and the C Concourse.


Scheduled Lane Closures on Dulles Airport Access Highway: Week of
September 30-October 6

Below is an overview of scheduled lane closures which are due to ongoing construction of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, except where noted. For specific locations and details of the closures please visit www.dullesmetro.com.

**Westbound Dulles Airport Access Highway will shift lanes near the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station beginning Friday, July 27. Motorists should reduce speed through this area.**

Eastbound - between Dulles and the I-495 Beltway

  • 6:00pm-5:00am Monday-Friday: Single lane closures are planned.

Westbound - between the I-495 Beltway and Dulles

  • 8:00am-2:00pm Monday-Friday: Single lane closures are planned.
  • 6:00pm-5:00am Monday-Friday: Single lane closures are planned.

EASTBOUND and WESTBOUND CLOSURES FOR I-495 EXPRESS LANES PROJECT:

* IN ADDITION, unscheduled or intermittent lane closures along other portions of the highway could occur for work related to the Metrorail or I-495 Express Lanes Projects. Please use caution when driving near construction areas.


Dulles Celebrates One-Half Billion Passengers Since 1962

A surprise party was held at Gate C27 on Friday, June 15 in commemoration of 500 million passengers at Dulles since it opened in 1962. This event is part of a year-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Washington Dulles International Airport. Click here to read more.

World’s First Passenger 747-8i Flight Landed at Dulles on June 1

Lufthansa flight 418 from Frankfurt marked a milestone when it landed at Dulles on June 1. It is the world’s first passenger flight of Boeing’s new 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft. The aircraft is configured to serve 362 passengers and is 18 feet longer than its predecessor, the 747-400. Dulles can accommodate all types of large passenger aircraft with four runways and terminals with spacious holdrooms and multiple jetbridges.

International Arrivals Building Expansion Project Completed

A construction project to streamline and improve the total experience for inbound international passengers at Washington Dulles International Airport is now complete, in time for the peak International travel season. The International Arrivals Building (IAB) is a world-class gateway for passengers arriving at Dulles on International flights. It has doubled in size since the project began. Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Daily Garage #2

Four new electric vehicle charging stations installed in Daily Parking Garage #2 at Dulles International Airport are open for FREE usage as part of a pilot program. Each charging station can accommodate two vehicles, for a total of eight parking spaces. The spaces are conveniently located near the Main Terminal walkway and are reserved for “electric vehicles only” with special signage. Click here for more details.

Advice for passengers about wait times in the Main Terminal

Please arrive early for your flight: 2 hours for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights, especially during these busiest times in the Main Terminal:
  • 5:30am - 8:00am
  • 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • 3:30pm - 5:30pm

There is a need for volunteers to work with Travelers Aid at Dulles International and Reagan National Airports. You can also choose to be a Mobile Guide, a new service in which you scout for travelers with questions and assist them.
