Congressman David R. Obey, House Appropriations Committee Chair, Recognizes NCBI's 20th Anniversary with Congressional Record Statement

The Honorable David R. Obey, Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin and Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, saluted the National Center for Biotechnology Information's 20th anniversary with a June 26, 2009 statement in the Congressional Record. NCBI is a research arm of the National Library of Medicine, the world's largest medical library, located on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Cong. Obey has long been a friend of biomedical research and health care, and was an early supporter of legislation to create the institution that would become NCBI. His Record statement chronicles developments leading up to the birth of NCBI and recounts the institution's many milestones. He also hails "NCBI's visionary leader, Dr. David Lipman" and "NLM's excellent director, Dr. Donald A. B. Lindberg," and "the bright and dedicated staff of the NCBI" for "20 years of outstanding public service to the nation and the world."
