SlideShare Content Sharing with your Professional Network on LinkedIn

by Ross Mayfield on January 9, 2013

Since LinkedIn acquired SlideShare, we’ve been working towards new ways to help professionals discover people through content, and content through people. Today we’re releasing some new ways to engage your Professional Network on LinkedIn with the content you discover and share.

Follow along with four easy steps:

1) Log into SlideShare with your LinkedIn credentials

Now you can use your LinkedIn login with SlideShare. Just click the button on the SlideShare log in page:

LinkedIn log in

2) Use your LinkedIn profile to enrich your SlideShare profile

After you log in with your LinkedIn credentials, you can optionally import your LinkedIn Profile information to complete your SlideShare Profile. Again, just click the button and the profile is filled in automatically.
Opt in with SlideShare and LinkedIn
3) Follow your LinkedIn Network on SlideShare

You’ve probably been hard at work building your Professional Network on LinkedIn. Now with one click you can Follow your contacts. By Following, you automatically see when your Network has uploaded content, favorited content they find or commented on content in you SlideShare Newsfeed. This is a great way to discover content through people.

Also new is a Daily Content Digest email that we send to you whenever the people you Follow upload new presentations, documents or videos.

4) Share Content You Discover with your LinkedIn Network

You can also enable content sharing to your LinkedIn Network. Anytime you upload a new presentation, document or video to SlideShare, it will automatically publish a link to it as a Status Update on LinkedIn.

You can also share any content you find on SlideShare with your LinkedIn Network with one click. When viewing a presentation, click on Favorite and will be shared as a status update on LinkedIn. You can undo this sharing action or change your settings at any time.

With over 200 million members on LinkedIn, now you have some simple ways to network with them through the content you share.

How to get more followers by adding a SlideShare badge to your website

by Kit Seeborg on January 8, 2013

You’ve completed your SlideShare profile, uploaded some presentations, embedded a slideshow or two on your blog. But how are you letting your readers know about your additional SlideShare content? It’s time to add a SlideShare badge (aka widget) to your website.

With one click on your SlideShare badge, visitors to your blog or website will link directly to your SlideShare profile page. From here they can learn more about you or your company, view your presentations and follow you.

As easy as copy and paste
You’ll find 14 SlideShare widgets to choose from on our Mini Badges page. Select a badge, click on the code to copy it, then paste the code onto your website or blog. The link to your SlideShare profile is automatically included.

Here’s how Jeremiah Owyang of Altimeter Group includes a SlideShare badge on his website:

Jeremiah Owyang

Notice that the badge is included with his other social icons. Jeremiah is a very active SlideShare user, and the badge makes it easy for readers of his blog to see that he also has content on SlideShare.

Marketing Profs also groups their social icons together, including the SlideShare badge:

United Nations DESA does the same:

Successful businesses and organizations understand the importance of growing and nurturing communities of followers. This is one of the cornerstones of a strong content marketing strategy.

Followers see your SlideShare activity in their newsfeed
When someone follows you on SlideShare, your updates will appear in their SlideShare newsfeed. These update notifications happen whenever you:

  • upload a presentation
  • comment on someone else’s presentation
  • favorite a presentation
  • follow another SlideShare user

Remember, when you follow another SlideShare user, they will get an email notification and a link to follow you back.

More followers means more reach, so take advantage of social sharing with the 130 million SlideShare users by adding a SlideShare badge to your website!

New LinkedIn profiles make it easier to add SlideShare presentations

by Kit Seeborg on December 18, 2012

We’ve been working on providing new and exciting ways to add SlideShare content to your LinkedIn profile. Previously this was done with the SlideShare App on LinkedIn, which we are discontinuing in favor of a simpler and easier way to add content. The new LinkedIn profiles will be rolled out during the next month to people around the world. Here’s how to use them.

If you were using the SlideShare App on LinkedIn
As part of the migration, all your existing SlideShare content currently displayed on your LinkedIn profile through the LinkedIn app will be transitioned to the new profile page. Once you opt in to the new LinkedIn profile page, you will see your SlideShare presentations are already there.

If you did not use the SlideShare App on LinkedIn
As part of the new LinkedIn profile, we will be rolling out a simplified experience for integrating rich media content like presentations, videos, and documents. This feature preview is currently available to a limited amount of users and we are rolling it out gradually to everyone in the new year.

View your analytics all in one place
As part of this transition, your LinkedIn profile will no longer display engagement analytics about your SlideShare content. However, you’ll still be able to visit SlideShare.net for detailed engagement analytics on your Slideshare content.

How do you like the new, easier way to add SlideShare content to your LinkedIn profile? Let us know in the comments below.

Haiku Deck + Slideshare = The Fast Track to Slide Stardom

by HaikuDeck on December 13, 2012

Slidesharers, you should know that you have totally inspired us. Every time we visit, we discover amazing storytellers and fresh new ways to communicate. We’re often amazed by the beautifully designed decks we find as we browse the site.

We also know that many mere mortals struggle to make their stories look as good as those professionally designed ones. So we set out to make a tool that would take the design hocus-pocus out of the process. We wanted to offer a simple, fun way for anybody to create flawlessly beautiful presentations. The result is Haiku Deck, and we’d like to invite you to give it a spin.

When you try out our free iPad app, we think you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can produce slides that look like they were professionally designed. We’re talking about the kind of slides make you feel like a total rock star. The kind of slides that get lots of views on Slideshare.

That’s why we’re so excited about our new seamless integration with Slideshare. Create your rock-star slides with Haiku Deck, then upload them to your SlideShare account for the fast track to slide stardom:

Uploading Your Haiku Deck To SlideShare

  1. Every Haiku Deck you create generates a web link when you publish it. You can email a deck to yourself right from the app, and then click through to view it on our website. (Be sure to sign in to the Haiku Deck website the same way you sign in to Haiku Deck on your iPad.)
  2. Locate the buttons immediately below your deck, and click “SHARE.”
  3. Haiku Deck

  4. A pop-up window will appear.

Type in your SlideShare username and password, click “SHARE,” and a PDF of your deck will be automatically uploaded to your Slideshare profile.

You can then click through to your deck on SlideShare to add a description, tags, and category, all of which help your great ideas get discovered.

Inspiration
What kinds of Haiku Decks work well on SlideShare? Here are a few ideas.

  1. Create an “About Me” Haiku Deck to make your SlideShare profile stand out, like this one, by Haiku Deck CEO and co-founder Adam Tratt.
  2. Create a Haiku Deck that demonstrates your expertise, like Social Media Distilled, by Janet Fouts.
  3. Create a Haiku Deck summarizing a favorite book or blog post, like How Ideas Take Flight, by Catherine Carr.

For more inspiration, you can take a spin through more examples on the Haiku Deck SlideShare page. You can also check out Powerful Presentations, a Haiku Deck we created to share our best tips for standout presentations.

That’s the Ticket
With Haiku Deck, wrestling with formatting or large files is no longer a soul-sucking, hours-long test of endurance. Instead, you’re free to think of new stories you want to tell, upload more Haiku Decks to SlideShare, and (hey, we’ve done it, too) refresh your profile to see just how much love your rock-star slides are getting.

And if you have a question, we’re here to help–please feel free to tweet us @haikudeck or drop us a line: info@haikudeck.com.

The world is waiting, SlideSharers. Time to set your story free!

Cheers,
Team Haiku Deck

Sharing presentations increases engagement

by Kit Seeborg on November 29, 2012

Here at SlideShare, we can clearly see the influence that popular presentations have on the greater SlideShare audience to further explore ideas and concepts. Taking an existing presentation to the next level, either creatively or intellectually, inspires interaction and gives new momentum to the original content.

Bruce Gabrielle recently uploaded this presentation which he embedded in his very popular blog post, 5 Tips For Presenting to Executives. Bruce’s slideshow caught the attention of Dirk Hannemann of Berlin, Germany who then built upon the presentation’s salient points and created a video of his own.

Dirk Hannemann

Thankfully, the days of closely guarded content are nearly gone. Bruce was flattered that his slideshow provided inspiration for continued exploration. So much so that he posted a follow-up article on his own blog, sharing Dirk’s video with his audience.

Are you inspired by the presentations of other SlideShare community members? Make sure you’re following them so their new uploads and favorites appear in your SlideShare newsfeed. Reach out to those who inspire you, share and build upon the ideas that have an impact on your thinking and actions.

If you’d like to use someone else’s existing content, be sure to contact the originator for permission, or follow the Creative Commons Licensing guidelines.

It’s exciting to be swimming and sharing together in this rising tide as it lifts all boats. Jump in, the water’s warm.
