How will the Discover order handle refunds?

By

As a result of today’s order, Discover will pay approximately $200 million in restitution to more than 3.5 million consumers.

How will consumers be refunded?

Anyone affected by this order will automatically receive a credit to their account, or, if they’re no longer a Discover customer, they’ll receive a check in the mail or have any outstanding balance reduced by the amount of the refund.

Consumers don’t need to take any further action to receive their credit or check.

If you have questions about whether you are entitled to a refund, please contact Discover.

As with any time large numbers of consumers get refunds, scammers sometimes pop up. Watch out for anyone who tries to charge you, tries to get you to disclose your personal information, or asks you to cash a check and send a portion to a third party in order to “claim your refund.” It’s a scam. Quick question (I hope) Did I really hear and see on CNN this morning 9/25 that one of the findings of the CFPB in the repayment and fines against Discover Card was that the call center sales people where talking too fast when discussing the products?

Does that mean CFPB is going to start regulating speed of speech? Talk about unbridled power!

About 5 years ago I started calling Discover and asking them to remove these services from my account. Each time they told me it was all set and I would no longer recieve the identity theft protection service, yet the $10 would appear on my bill month after month until I gave up calling. Finally after about 4 years the service was removed. Discover should not only refund me for each of these $10 transactions, but also for the interest I paid on them when they were added to my balance.

I just called Discover a few days ago in regards to my hardship payment plan. They told had told me I would be able to extend the same terms for another full year but I noticed the interest rate is at 19.99% so the customer service rep stated that would not be possible even tough prior I had been told no problem and he went on stating that i would have to wait a year unless I went through a credit counseling company. I asked if all these details had been put in writing and mailed to me after accepting the plan he stated this was a privilege that Discover offered and no policy or procedures had to be disclosed ever. Maybe I wouldn’t of agreed to the plan if I knew I could not apply until 2 years later again and why wont they be willing to help when I have made all payments accordingly not 1 day over 30 days.

several years AGo Regions Bank took over the Pioneer Bank in Chattanooga Tennessee. I think I had some money on deposit there under the name of Sam Chester & company. The name could be slightly different but would have Chester in it somewhere. Could you let me know if you have some money there from that transaction?
