Michael R. Novak
Assistant Administrator for Training and
Workforce Engagement
In October 2011, Michael Novak was named Assistant Administrator for
the new Office of Training and Workforce Engagement, bringing together
the agency’s technical, leadership and workforce training and
engagement functions. As the head of the office, Novak oversees the
creation of processes that engage our employees and empower them to
execute our mission.
Novak joined the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) in 2003 and has
served in several leadership roles including Assistant Director for
Training and Workforce Programs. In that position, he ensured the
oversight of the FAMS Training Center and training policy development,
planning and assessments, distance learning and medical programs.
Most recently, he served as Deputy Assistant Administrator for the
Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service where he directed
the deployment of Federal Air Marshals and was responsible for
day-to-day operational leadership of FAMS programs. In that capacity he
also provided advice to TSA leadership on strategic and operational
direction in all areas of law enforcement and security
operations.
Before joining FAMS, Novak worked more than 20 years in the United
States Secret Service, retiring as Deputy Special Agent in Charge with
the Presidential Protective Division where he managed more than 600
Uniformed Division officers and command staff. During his tenure, Novak
oversaw emergency preparedness, air security, informational technology
support, access control, and the communication operations center at the
White House.
Novak graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts
in 1980, majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
