This Valentine's Day - Register to Become an Organ Donor
February 14th, beloved by all as Valentine’s Day, is also National Donor Day. HRSA is spreading the word on organ, tissue, marrow, and blood donation and how you can save lives this Valentine’s Day.

This Valentine's Day - Become an Organ Donor. Sign-up with your State's donor registry. Here's what you may not know:

  • Each organ and tissue donor saves or improves the lives of as many as 50 people.

  • Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. But 19 people die because of the shortage of donated organs.

Signing up to become an organ donor is simple: join your State's donor registry; indicate your decision to be a donor on your driver's license; and inform loved ones of your decision. There is no age limit for donors, and because some conditions and blood types are more common in certain ethnic and racial populations, HRSA especially encourages minorities to consider becoming donors.

This month HRSA has relaunched OrganDonor.gov. Visit this site for more information on becoming a donor, donation statistics and research, and donation advocacy.
