Recovery Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides $2 billion for grants to health centers, an unprecedented opportunity to serve more patients, stimulate new jobs, and meet the significant increase in demand for primary health care services among the Nation's uninsured and underserved populations. There are 7,900 community-based and patient-directed health center sites nationwide.

Health centers receiving funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are required to submit quarterly reports on programmatic progress on these grants.

Facility Investment Program

Funds made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will support health center efforts to expand their capacity to provide primary and preventive health services to medically underserved populations nationwide as well as create employment opportunities in underserved communities over the next 2 years. FIP grants are one-time awards.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP)

The Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program (CIP) grants support the construction, repair and renovation of over 1,500 health center sites nationwide. More than 650 centers are using the funds to purchase new equipment or health information technology, and nearly 400 health centers are expanding the use of electronic health records.

Increased Demand for Services (IDS)

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act supports new and existing health center grantees to meet spikes in uninsured populations by increasing supplemental payments to service centers that receive operating grants under section 330 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act.
