DOT and Safe Kids Kick Off Child Passenger Safety Week

September 17: Event reminds parents and caregivers to make sure that they are properly using and installing their child safety seats. A new NHTSA survey shows that parents are making five significant mistakes when using car seats and booster seats. HHS Joins DOT's "Where's Baby? Look Before You Lock." Campaign

August 17: With at least 23 deaths and an unknown number of serious injuries to children left unattended in hot vehicles this summer, DOT is teaming up with Health and Human Services to mobilize the network of Head Start and child care providers nationwide to prevent further tragedies. NHTSA & Safe Kids Partner to Prevent Child Heatstroke Deaths

June 26: Nationwide effort will include public events throughout July to highlight the dangers of heatstroke. Heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash, vehicle-related deaths for children under the age of 14, with at least 33 fatalities reported in 2011 alone. Read More
