NGAkids logoNGAkids DUTCH DOLLHOUSE INTERACTIVE

NOTE: If your computer is running a recent version of Windows or Mac OS X and you have Shockwave 11.5, use this version of the program. If you are running Snow Leopard OS 10.6 on your Mac, please run Safari in 32-bit mode. Here's how.

In Holland during the 17th and 18th centuries, the "poppenhuis" was an adult diversion, but our online DOLLHOUSE is fun for kids of all ages. Paintings by well-known artists such as Pieter de Hooch, Gerard ter Borch, Jan Steen, and Johannes Vermeer spring to life as you mix and match colorful characters, create decorative objects, and explore the kitchen, living quarters, artist's studio, and courtyard of this make-believe Dutch house.

DOLLHOUSE requires Shockwave Player. A high-speed Internet connection or preloading prior to play is recommended. With a cable or DSL connection, the interactive will open in seconds, but the download may take longer over a slow connection. If your Internet connection speed is slow you still can play. Just preload the game while you're doing something else, then come back to the Web page after the program has transferred to your computer. The dollhouse will stay open until you close your browser window or shut down the computer.

HINTS

Click the Menu button icon MENU button at the bottom left to add new people and objects to the room you're designing.
To delete something, slide it out of the scene. (If you change your mind, use the MENU to bring it back.)
Click the narrow area between the house and the main window to enter the courtyard.
To print a room, click the printer-shaped icon print icon at the top right.
To save the dollhouse scene on your computer or to share your pictures by email, take a screenshot.

An early version is available for older Windows-based computers. Older Macs running OS 10.4 Tiger can use it, too, but the program will load slowly on the Mac and printing has been disabled.
