WASHINGTON, April 26, 2011 – The documentary film “Returning America’s Art to America,” showcasing GSA’s effort to recover lost and stolen artwork from the New Deal era, has earned a bronze 2011 Telly Award.  

The Telly Awards honor the best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs; and the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.The film, sponsored by the GSA Office of Inspector General, documents the history of public artwork commissioned during Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency, including under the Works Progress Administration.

“Like a wanted poster, this film has led to the recovery of valuable WPA art,” said GSA Inspector General Brian Miller.

As the official custodian of these commissioned pieces, GSA works with other federal agencies and the art community to recover the lost and missing pieces, and put them back on public display. Since the film’s release in October 2010, two more pieces of artwork belonging to the federal government have been recovered, and recovery of one more is in progress. Additionally two other pieces have been voluntarily relinquished to GSA.

GSA won in the government relations category.

Founded in 1978, the Telly Award is one of the most sought-after industry awards with more than 10,000 entries each year.
