U.S. Secretary of Education to Keynote Symposium: Innovation to Drive Productivity in Postsecondary Education

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give the opening address at the symposium, "Innovation to Drive Productivity in Postsecondary Education," at 8:50 a.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 1, at Georgetown University. Duncan will call on higher education stakeholders and practitioners to lead the charge to take innovative strategies in teaching and learning to scale and to explore technology's potential to help our nation reach President Obama's goal to once again lead the world in the number of college graduates by the year 2020. Following his remarks, Duncan and Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement Jim Shelton will hold a question-and-answer session with symposium participants.

Sponsored by the Department of Education in collaboration with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the symposium will bring together 175 innovators, practitioners, students, foundation representatives, and college and university leaders for a day of panels and small group discussions with senior Department and White House officials, examining technological innovations that can be instrumental in transforming teaching and learning. Under Secretary Martha Kanter will give closing remarks and issue a call to action.
