October 5, 2012

Currently, 19 large fires and complexes have burned a little over 686,000 acres. Two new large fires were reported and two were contained. Although the weather conditions are cooler and damper in some areas, fuel conditions remain dry and ready to burn. Be careful in the outdoors during your fall hunting, camping and fishing excursions.

Weather: Cold conditions will continue across most of the northern half of the nation as a strong Canadian high pressure system sinks well into the southern Plains. Scattered showers will linger
along the Front Range of Wyoming and Colorado. Snow showers will continue over the upper Midwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will form along a cold front that stretches from Texas to New York. Warm weather will remain over the Southwest and across the Southeast.
