Extending the Legacy: GSA Historic Building Stewardship 2011
GSA's 2011 report recaps a banner period of GSA stewardship achievements, with National Register nominations now complete for 90 percent of GSA’s history inventory and GSA leading the nation in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other innovative technologies for conserving and adapting historic buildings to serve new uses. GSA’s reinvestment program under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) demonstrates the potential for harnessing synergies between environmental directives focused on creating a sustainable inventory and economic directives aimed at regenerating historic main streets and city centers. This year’s stewardship report is designed specifically for online use, with navigational hyperlinks throughout the report and one-click access to GSA web features, including several videos.
Extending the Legacy: GSA Historic Building Stewardship 2008
GSA’s 2008 update to its comprehensive stewardship report showcases agency successes in every major business activity involving historic buildings, with richly illustrated case studies that serve as valuable models for creative problem solving and risk management. Among these are GSA’s 10-year modern-era buildings initiative, which won a National Trust award in 2008, and African Burial Ground interpretation, which won GSA a 2008 Preserve America Presidential Award. The report also raises the need for greater reinvestment funding and flexibility to enable GSA to meet its commitment to giving historic buildings priority in meeting federal space needs.
Extending the Legacy: GSA Historic Building Stewardship 2004
The 2004 report was initiated in part as a follow up to GSA’s 1999 report Held in Public Trust: PBS Strategy for Using Historic Buildings and also to fulfill GSA’s responsibilities under Executive Order 13287, "Preserve America". Extending the Legacy examines our stewardship successes and challenges within the practical framework of GSA’s business approach to providing and maintaining federal workspace.
