Recovery Act Funding for Community Health Centers
The Recovery Act provides $2 billion to be invested in Community Health Centers, an unprecedented opportunity to serve more patients and meet the significant increase in demand for primary health care services among the nation's uninsured and underserved populations. Recovery Act funding will be invested in Community Health Centers to support critically needed health care services, renovations and repairs, and investments in health information technology: Capital – Construction, Renovation, Equipment, and Acquisition of Health IT - Capital Improvement Program (CIP). $853 million in Recovery Act grants are upgrading and expanding Community Health Centers to open their doors to more patients.
- Facilities Investment Program. $520 million dollars supports construction and renovation projects at health centers, enabling them to serve additional patients.
- Health Information Technology Systems/Networks. $121 million will help Community Health Centers acquire and implement certified EHRs and Health IT systems.
Services - Increased Demand for Community Health Center Services (IDS). HHS released $342 million in Recovery Act grants to expand services offered by Community Health Centers and to help them meet the increased need for affordable health care during the economic downturn.
- New Access Points. $156 million in Recovery Act grants allowed Community Health Centers to create new service sites across the country to provide services to more Americans.
