Data Resources Program

The Data Resources Program ensures the preservation, availability and transparency of data collected through NIJ-funded research and evaluation.

Under the Data Resources Program, data from NIJ-funded research is archived [1] and made available to support new research that reproduces original findings, replicates results and tests new hypotheses.

Data are maintained at the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD), which provides online access [2] to machine-readable files, data dictionaries, study abstracts and geographic data. There are three ways to be involved with the Data Resources Program.
  1. As an Applicant for Funding —
  2. As a UserLearn how to access and use data sets.
  3. As a GranteeLearn about submitting required data.

Notes

[1] Not every project funded by NIJ requires that data be submitted for archiving. Specific requirements are detailed in each solicitation and the funding documentation for every award.

[2] Not all data sets can be immediately downloaded. Some are restricted due to privacy and human subjects concerns. See details on restricted data and how to obtain them Exit Notice.
