Figure 5.22 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use in the past year among youths aged 12 to 17, by State, for 2002. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (5.71 to 7.90 percent) were Arizona, Florida, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. States in the next highest group (5.42 to 5.70 percent) were Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (4.92 to 5.41 percent) were Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. States in the next lowest group (4.53 to 4.91 percent) were California, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, New Jersey, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wyoming. States in the lowest group (3.64 to 4.52 percent) were Alaska, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.
