The American Academy of Family Physicians says psychological therapy may benefit people dealing with:
- Depression, grief/loss or anger.
- Domestic violence.

- Addiction or compulsiveness.
- Phobia, anxiety or stress.
- An eating disorder or chronic pain.
- Parenting or family issues.
