    CG Anderson Stresses Obama's Second-Term Priorities on a RAC1 interview

    Consul General Tanya C. Anderson held her first live radio interview on Catalonia’s most popular morning news program, El Món a RAC 1, on January 22, coinciding with president Obama’s inauguration on the day before. Jordi Basté interviewed the Consul General for almost half an hour, during which she answered questions about the key topics in president Obama’s second term, U.S. foreign policy and other domestic issues such as the gay marriage and gun control. In addition, the Consul General also explained the role of the U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona.

    Seminar at the CCCB on Citizenship, Internet and Democracy

    Journalist, academic and expert in Internet and its social and political effects, Evgeny Morozov, spoke about the new digital intermediaries, in the framework of a series of debates on Internet and Citizenship organized by the CCCB on December 4. Morozov discussed the uses of some of the latest innovations in the field of new technologies and showed his skeptical point of view on some of the myths related to the Internet. Morozov sees new technologies as mediators who intervene in our social relations and influence the way we understand democracy. Something that users should be aware of.

    Steve Coffman engages librarians in Barcelona about the future of libraries in the digital age

    Vice President of Library Support Services at Library Systems and Services, Steve Coffman, delivered the opening lecture of the 13th Symposium on Information and Documentation in Barcelona on November 21. The event, organized by the Catalan Association of Librarians, is the most important event in the library field in the region of Catalonia, gathering over 300 librarians, students and information professionals. Coffman addressed the on-going discussion in the U.S. on the future of libraries in the age of Google, e-books and social media. During his visit to Barcelona, Coffman also gave a talk to high school students from Costa i Llobera's a public school in Barcelona, and did a presentation to undergraduate students from the School of Library and Information Science of the University of Barcelona.

    New Consul General, Tanya C. Anderson, meets with leading Catalan authorities

    As part of her incoming courtesy calls, U.S. Consul General Tanya C. Anderson met Artur Mas, president of the Generalitat; Nuria de Gispert, President of the Catalan Parliament; Maria de los Llanos de Luna, Delegate of the Spanish Government in Catalonia and Xavier Trias, Mayor of Barcelona. The Consul General discussed issues of common interest.
