Department of Defense (DOD) Schools
Who is Eligible for this Program?
The Department of Defense (DOD) Schools are available to the
following members of Team Coast Guard:
- Active Duty, Reserves, Retirees and their dependents stationed in OCONUS locations except Alaska and Hawaii
- Civil Service employees in Puerto Rico and Guam
- Exchange System and MWR employees in Puerto Rico and Guam
Purpose of Program
The strategic plan of Department of Defense Education
Activity (DoDEA) is to provide, in military communities worldwide, exemplary
educational programs that inspire and prepare all students for success in
a global environment. Both students from military families and children of
civilian employees in a military community are eligible to attend
DoDEA Schools. DoDEA provides a comprehensive curriculum from
Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade that is competitive with that of
school systems in the United States.
Program
Confidentiality
Discussions of the information provided to enroll a child in a
DoDEA Schools are revealed only to
persons with a need to know in their role in the school.
Schools personnel are mandated reporters of suspected or substantiated
child abuse and are required to report such incidents to the appropriate
officials.
Definitions
The following definitions apply to the DoD Schools Program:
- Special needs dependent children are those with a diagnosed and professionally documented long-term medical, physical, psychological, mental or educational; disability. Before such school age family members accompany a member overseas it must be determined that the school operates a program that will meet the child’s needs.
