Members of the Air Guard are eligible for low-cost health and life insurance.

As a member of the Air Guard, you'll be eligible for low-cost health insurance for you and your family, along with low-cost life insurance, so you know your loved ones are protected. These Insurances include:
  • TRICARE Dental Insurance - The only dental plan sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD) for National Guard/Reserve sponsors and their families. With the TDP, you will enjoy a nationwide network of more than 65,000 participating dentists, high-quality customer service and comprehensive dental coverage designed specifically with you in mind!
  • TRICARE Medical Insurance - Medical Coverage is available in different options necessary to meet the needs of different individuals. From individuals to families insurance is available for those in full time or part time status to ensure coverage is available. Families and Part-time members coverage is offered through TRICARE Reserve Select and is a premium-based health plan available worldwide to Selected Reserve members of the Ready Reserve (and their families) who are not eligible for, or enrolled in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program.
  • Servicemans Group Life Insurance (SGLI) - SGLI is a low cost group life insurance members of the Air Guard can purchase. SGLI coverage is available in $50,000 increments up to the maximum of $400,000.

    Life Experience

    New Members of the Air Guard attend basic military training followed by specialized training in the career of their choice.

    As a new recruit in the Air Guard, you'll attend basic military training followed by specialized training in the career of your choice. After your initial training, you'll return to an Air Guard unit close to where you live, work, or go to school. You can continue life as it was before you joined, except that you will serve at your unit one weekend each month, earning a paycheck for your service. You'll also spend about two weeks a year learning new technologies and information related to your Air Guard career functions. Being a member of the Air Guard will complement your life.

    Officers in the Air Guard can begin or continue their professional military career while developing leadership skills.

    The Air Guard values your honorable service in the United States military. After matching your skills with the needs of the local unit, it’s easy to make a smooth transition into the Air Guard as an officer coming from the Air Force. You’ll continue to receive generous military benefits, such as low-cost life insurance and health care. In the Air Guard all of your prior service time counts as you keep working towards earning a retirement – all while developing your civilian career. Your part-time service in the Air Guard will help you reach the 20-year service mark, allowing you to retire with benefits.
    Education Benefits
    Tuition reimbursement of $500 per semester or quarter. No more than $1,000 annually.
    Group Insurance
    Up to $25,000 for guardsmen; up to $15,000 for spouse; $3,000-$5,000 for dependents
    Injury Death Benefits
    State Active Duty: Workers' Comp.
    Medical Benefits
    Full coverage for any injury or illness incurred in LOD.
    Miscellaneous
    One free distinctive tag each yr. Retired military pay not subject to state income tax. State employees called to Active Duty are paid the difference if their Active Duty pay is less than their regular state pay.
    Reimbursement
    Full reimbursement for all documented expenses
