Iowa Grant Writing Training
Helping Those Who Help Others

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Des Moines, IA Field Office recently conducted a two-day, no cost grant writing workshop.  This workshop taught participants how to expand capacity building and secure grant funding.

Thirty participants from across Iowa and Nebraska attended the workshop at the Urbandale Public Library.  They represented faith-based and community organizations, state/local government and nonprofit organizations.

The focus was on how to apply for HUD grants.  The principles taught were applicable to any grant.

The two-day training provided something of value for everyone, whether they were experienced grant writers or new to the process and trying to decide if they should become a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit. The session included organizational development, strategic planning, capacity building and the art & science of grant writing.

Urbandale Mayor, Bob Andeweg, and HUD Field Office Director, Steve Eggleston, both thanked participants for attending the workshop and welcomed them to the City of Urbandale.

Grant writing workshops are sponsored by HUD’s Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and are held at various locations of the country throughout the year.
