Discretionary Grant Outcomes and Lessons Learned
The Children's Bureau awards discretionary grants for research and program development, through a competitive peer-review process, to State, Tribal, and local agencies; faith-based and community-based organizations; and other nonprofit and for-profit groups. (For more about the Children's Bureau's Discretionary Grant Programs, visit the Children's Bureau website.)

Additional information and materials from Discretionary Grant programs (including award summary lists and grantee abstracts) can be found through the Children's Bureau Discretionary Grants Library.
The following types of information are available through this site:
Syntheses of Findings
The knowledge developed through Discretionary Grants is intended for wide dissemination, so that it may be integrated into future child welfare policy and practice. To this end, the Children's Bureau has developed brief syntheses of knowledge gained from specific 'clusters' of grants funded under a single program announcement. These syntheses describe grantees' common challenges, strategies, outcomes, and lessons learned.
Site Visit Reports
Each year since 2003, staff from the Children's Bureau Division of Research and Innovation have also made site visits to selected Discretionary Grant projects. The purpose of these visits is to learn more about what funded projects are doing and the early results of their efforts.
