Program Type: Discretionary/Competitive Grants
Also Known As: TPDP

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program provided grants to eligible consortia consisting of an LEA that provided vocational education at the secondary level, an IHE that provided technical education at the postsecondary level, and a business partner, to enable them to carry out Tech-Prep education programs that involved the location of a secondary school on the site of a community college and the voluntary participation of secondary school students. Tech-Prep vocational-technical education programs combined at least two years of secondary education preceding graduation with at least two years of postsecondary education, in a nonduplicative, coherent sequence of courses leading the student to an associate degree or certificate in a specific career field and to high-skill, high-wage employment or further education.

TYPES OF PROJECTS

These were model projects designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of providing vocationaltechnical education for secondary Tech-Prep students on community college campuses.
