State Profile

On the Eastern seaboard of the United States, Delaware is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, as well as by the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Delaware ranks 49th in the nation with a total area of 1,982 square miles. The state capital is in Dover. The state has a population of 897,934 residents (2010 U.S. Census). Residents are predominantly Caucasian (68.9%), with a significant African-American population (21.4%). Hispanics make up 8.2% of the population and Asians make up 3.2% of the population.
