Cholesterol Education - 5

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters, I’m Joe Balintfy. High blood cholesterol, a major risk factor for heart disease, can be controlled with lifestyle changes. NIH nutritionist, Janet De Jesus says that nutrition and physical activity play an important role.

De Jesus: It’s important to look at your saturated fat intake, your fiber intake, maintain a healthy weight or if you are overweight try and lose weight and be physically active daily.

Narrator: De Jesus recommends the TLC or therapeutic lifestyle changes program. She says the TLC program can both help reduce high cholesterol levels, but prevent them from getting high in the first place. For details, visit www.nhlbi.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
