Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness - 3

Narrator: This is NIH Health Matters, I’m Joe Balintfy. Pulmonary fibrosis is a disease in which tissue deep in the lungs over time becomes thick and stiff. Dr. James Kiley at the NIH says people with pulmonary fibrosis may have fatigue, muscle aches or a very dry cough.

Kiley: So these are some of the signs and symptoms, the biggest of all are the shortness of breath, the difficulty breathing in doing just normal activities and that’s one that you would want to be certainly aware of and discuss with your physician.

Narrator: Pulmonary fibrosis has no cure yet. Therapies include supplemental oxygen, pulmonary rehabilitation or possibly a lung transplant. For details visit www.nhlbi.nih.gov. Health Matters is produced by the National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
