SSA is creating a new, third data center (NSC) to replace the aging National Computer Center in Woodlawn. To prepare for and engineer a faultless migration to this new data center (NSC), several labs will be built to test data replication as well as to mimic the latency that will be present in the proposed design of a local network that covers the distance of 40 miles. The simulated NSC lab is where this will be done. This lab needs to simulate the production environment as closely as possible. DNE requires Brocade MLXe-4 systems in the lab in order to simulate the production environment. At this moment, there is no environment to test new code, patches, or configuration changes on the Brocade network equipment. The MLXe-4 systems use the same code and configurations as the larger MLXe-32 equipment currently installed in the production environment. No other brand network equipment uses the same code and configurations as the Brocade MLX line. In order to mitigate problems, DNE requires these switches for testing purposes.
