The Native American Center for Excellence (NACE)

The Native American Center for Excellence (NACE) is funded by CSAP and was established by SAMHSA to address issues related to substance abuse (SA) in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. To support the efforts of AI/AN substance abuse prevention programs and initiatives, NACE provides the following types of services:

  • Information Resources: The NACE website is a centralized hub for AI/AN substance abuse prevention information. NACE staff are also available to help meet information needs.

  • General Training and Technical Assistance (TTA): NACE provides onsite and offsite TTA to AI/AN communities on a wide variety of topics related to SA prevention. Please visit the training & technical assistance page for more information at  http://nace.samhsa.gov

  • Training and Technical Assistance for SAMHSA Programs and Grantees: NACE provides specialized TTA services for tribal grantees and participants of many SAMHSA programs including the Indian Country Methamphetamine Initiative, Strategic Prevention Framework-State Incentive Grant, and Native American Service to Science Academies.

  • Collaborative Training and Technical Assistance: NACE provides collaborative TTA with many other SAMHSA projects to enhance outcomes for tribal grantees and to ensure culturally sensitive approaches in service delivery.

Three principles direct the approach, attitude, and activities of NACE. They are:

  1. Bringing cultural attention, sensitivity, and regard to our interactions and relationships with AI/AN communities, service providers, researchers, and Native people as we invite them to participate in technical assistance, trainings, and gatherings;

  2. Providing training, technical assistance, meetings, and tools that are accurate in cultural, scientific, technical, and statistical terms; and

  3. Developing and producing trainings, technical assistance, and services that are high quality and user-friendly in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
