In October 2009, President Barack Obama announced a ground breaking initiative to increase The employment of people with disabilities in the Federal Workforce. One of the steps in the Initiative is a hiring event for Individuals with disabilities. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) met this challenge by hosting two Hiring Events for People with disabilities in the summer of 2010 and 2011.

Veterans

Discover a Career at NIH: It's About Life

The goal of the President’s Veteran Employment Initiative is to help federal agencies identify qualified Veterans, clarify the hiring process for Veterans seeking employment with the Federal government, and help them to adjust to the civilian work environment once they are hired. The NIH Veterans Recruitment and Retention Force was founded in November 2011 to help meet these goals.

The NIH Working Group on Women in Biomedical Careers is a trans-NIH effort to consider barriers for women in science and to develop innovative strategies to promote entry, recruitment, retention, and sustained advancement of women in biomedical and research careers.

Minorities

NIDA Baltimore Diversity

The NIH brings awareness to the NIH Community by hosting one hour programs monthly. These programs are geared towards learning more about Native American, African American, Asian American, Pacific Islander and Hispanic groups.

Diversity Spotlight: NINDS

The NINDS is committed to the development of a biomedical research workforce that is representative of the diversity in American society. NINDS seeks to promote diversity in all of its training and research programs and to increase the participation of underrepresented groups.
