Mission Support requires diverse skill sets and substantial resources to choreograph complex criminal investigations, or launch proactive counterintelligence or counterterrorism initiatives.

NCIS support services cut across key mission boundaries. Intelligence collection and sharing are streamlined through the LInX program, and other intelligence products generated from the MTAC 24/7 watch center support critical decision-making by the naval commands. Highly trained counter measures are adapted as needed to accomplish the mission. Forensics experts at NCIS operate globally and psychological services add strategic depth in investigations and counterintelligence initiatives.

NCIS operates from over 165 locations, with offices in 25 foreign countries. NCIS is often the first federal law enforcement agency on the scene when U.S. interests overseas are affected. Serving at major naval commands around the world, NCIS special agents also deploy as agents afloat aboard all Navy aircraft carriers and with amphibious task forces. NCIS agents routinely conduct advances before U.S. Navy ships visit non-navy ports, working with domestic and foreign counterparts to identify and mitigate security threats. NCIS also conducts protective service operations for senior naval officials and visiting dignitaries.
