Illinois Humanities Council cosponsors a discussion on Chicago's Puerto Rican music scene

The Illinois Humanities Council is cosponsoring a free discussion on Thursday, September 6, 2012 with cultural activist Carlos Flores entitled “Five Decades of Chicago’s Puerto Rican Music Scene: A Personal Recollection.” The discussion is part of events surrounding the exhibition American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music. The discussion will be held at the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance in Chicago and is free and open to the public  

American Sabor is a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian that examines the musical contributions of U.S. Latinos from the 1940’s to the present on popular U.S. music, exploring the social history and individual creativity that produced stars such as Tito Puente, Ritchie Valens, Celia Cruz, Carlos Santana, and Selena. American Sabor will be on display through October 7, 2012 at the PRAA/U.S. Bank Exhibit Hall in Chicago.
