Fundamentals of Campus Emergency Planning/Developing a Campus Threat Assessment Team (FCEP)

Program Focus:
This course will provide attendees with an understanding of key aspects of emergency plan development and testing. This will include learning how to identify (and differentiate between) threats and hazards, key components of an emergency plan, continuity of operations planning, common emergency management terminology, exercise planning and execution, and other considerations for universities and colleges. There will also be a panel discussion where attendees can ask questions of several campus public safety professionals in order to find out how issues and problems are handled at a variety of institutions. While this course covers the basics to help institutions get started, it is also a good review for those experienced in emergency planning.
Best Practices in Campus Threat Assessment (4-hours)
Program Focus:
This presentation will provide an overview of best practices in campus threat assessment and threat management, including the national standard for higher education institutions. The information presented is based on the model for campus threat assessment delineate in The Handbook for Campus Threat Assessment & Management Teams (referenced in the new national standard).

Curriculum
Training Topics:
An overview of campus violence;
- Major facts about targeted violence and implications for prevention;
- Comparisons between threat assessment, risk assessment and profiling;
- Building a campus threat assessment team or program;
- Steps in the threat assessment and management process;
- Developing and implementing case management strategies; and,
- Information sharing and other legal considerations for campus threat assessment teams.
Tuition and Cost
Tuition is free. Students will be responsible for travel, meals and lodging.
Prerequisites for Attendance
This training is geared toward a multi-disciplinary higher education audience, and is appropriate for administrators, campus law enforcement and security personnel, faculty, staff, support staff, mental health professionals and local law enforcement personnel.
