This 5-week Integrated Basic Police Training Program, designed for U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and tribal corrections officers, provides instruction on Rights of Inmates, Jail Operations, Fire Safety in Jails, Alcohol & Substance Abuse in Jails, Contraband Control and Cell Search, Inmate Health Screening, Disturbance Control, Bookings and Admissions, Jail Security, Environmental Health Inspections, Record Keeping, Suicide Prevention, Inmate Management, Community Policing, and Special Inmate Problems.

Prerequisites for Attendance

The BIA sets standards for recruiting new BIA and tribal corrections officers. After the individuals have been selected they are sent by the BIA to the Indian Police Academy, FLETC, Artesia, NM.
