September 5thGenealogical Resources at the Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS)
NARA staff member Beth Bensman, formerly on staff at PHS, will provide an overview of the holdings at the Society and how you can use these in your genealogical research. She will include a demo of the Foreign Missionary Index, Congregational Vertical Files Index, Biographical Vertical Files Index, and the Society's on-line catalog, CALVIN.
  
October 17thA Look at the Delaware County Archives
Dr. Robert Plowman, previously Archives Director for NARA at Philadelphia, is now the Archivist for the Delaware County Archives. Dr. Plowman's talk will focus on the holdings at the Delaware County Archives which includes birth, death, and marriage records; naturalizations; wills; court cases; and other materials.
  
November 14thCivil War Records and Genealogy
Join NARA staff member Beth Bensman for a discussion of Civil War records and how to use these in your genealogy research. Her talk will cover records of the Provost Marshal General (RG 110), how to track down Civil War service records for Union and Confederates, as well as the 1850 and 1860 slave schedules from the U.S. Census.
  
December 5th Reconstruction Era Records
NARA staff member Ellen Mulligan will speak about records from the Reconstruction era and how you can use these to research your family history. These include Records of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands (RG 105) as well as the Southern Claims Commission (within RG 56).

Exhibit Openings

April - December 2012

  • Documented Rights Part II, is now open. This nationally touring National Archives exhibit examines the evolution of our "inalienable rights", through the documents of seminal court cases - from the Amistad through Wong Kim Ark.
