The mission of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History is to identify, preserve, protect, promote and present the ideas, arts and artifacts of West Virginia’s heritage, building pride in our past accomplishments and confidence in our future.
Welcome from Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith.
November is a month of transitions. Fall comes to an end and winter sets in. We move from outdoor to indoor activities.
Here at the Division of Culture and History, we are excited to introduce a new student program – the West Virginia Marching Band Invitational on November 3 at Glenville and continue another, the First Lady’s Festival of Songs at the Culture Center on November 10. Archives and History lectures at the Culture Center and an archaeology program at Grave Creek offer free evening events for adults and youth.
Our student tours at all locations – West Virginia State Museum, Grave Creek, Museum in the Park and West Virginia Independence Hall are in full swing. We invite teachers, youth organization leaders and families to consider taking advantage of these wonderful opportunities to learn about our state’s history with programs that are free.
This is also a month of Thanksgiving. Here at the Division, we are grateful for everyone who supports our programs, attends our events and shares our love of West Virginia’s art, culture and heritage.
