National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster

NVOAD logo

The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is a coalition of 49 major national nonprofit and faith-based organizations with committed missions to domestic disaster-related services. With 38 years of respected experience, the National VOAD member agencies provide skilled direct services along the continuum from disaster prevention and preparation to response, recovery and mitigation. National VOAD serves its member agencies by coordinating planning efforts, enhancing response capabilities, and, when an incident occurs, facilitating comprehensive, coordinated volunteer response in partnership with emergency managers. This cooperative effort has proven to be the most effective way for a wide variety of volunteers and organizations to work together in a crisis.

National VOAD members work tirelessly throughout the year to provide disaster services nationally to individuals and families impacted by all types of disasters. Services include clean-up, home repairs and rebuilding, sheltering, feeding, childcare, case management, emotional and spiritual care, financial assistance, communication, transportation of water and supplies, warehouse and donations management, and volunteer management. National VOAD agencies are a major catalyst in creating long-term recovery groups in communities across the nation and are often the last to leave a community stricken by disaster. In addition, National members foster cooperation, coordination, communication and collaboration among the member agencies and with government and private sector partners. The National VOAD model has been replicated in 55 states and US territories, and several hundred regional and local VOADs.
