Communications Technology Testing and Evaluation
A major part of NIJ's CommTech portfolio involves technology testing and evaluation to provide unbiased information and point out technology gaps to the public safety community. NIJ serves as independent evaluator and honest broker and has developed partnerships with several State and local law enforcement agencies who field test and evaluate how well an interoperability solution performs and its impact on law enforcement or emergency responder operations, organization, and infrastructure.

An example is NIJ's evaluation of the implementation and operation of the ACU-1000 Intelligent Interconnect System. The ACU-1000 can simultaneously connect different radio networks as well as telephone systems. Read more about the ACU-1000 project:
