Florida player hits LSU punt returner hard, then gets hit even harder by his UF teammate (VIDEO)

One of the top rules of football celebrations should be that you never hit your teammate harder than he just hit the opponent.

Florida's Loucheiz Purifoy was excited about the big hit he made on LSU punt returner Odell Beckham Jr. That is, until he was gesturing to the crowd with his back turned to the field and he got blasted by Matt Elam. Elam happens to be Purifoy's teammate.

[Also: Florida shows toughness in gritty defensive win over LSU]

Purifoy tumbled to the ground, and seemed ready to fight Elam when he realized it was his own teammate that cracked him in the back and sent him sprawling. It was a legitimately hard hit and a truly awkward moment. Gonna need to work on those celebrations, Florida.

He probably was telling him that the tackle was suppose to be his...and from the back too.

If I were the coach, I'd suspend any player who jumps on or hits another player in celebration. I have seen so many injuries from this nonsense it is just uncalled for. In my eyes, no different than blindsiding a Quarterback 3 seconds after he threw the ball. He had no expectations of being smahed from behind. That's why there is a penalty against it. Football players are so stupid. So are the coaches.

Fact check...he was not a prophet, only a sadistic, murderous piece of filth that purported to be a prophet.

You think dude hit him so he didn't get a flag for pumping up the crowd?

When I played h.s. football in the late 70's we had maners and sportsmanship, acting like a 10 year old usually got you laps,or buut kicked or both.

Some of the real football celebrations result in teammate injury as well...

He didn't really hit the punt returner very hard at all. What a sad excuse for a story...

The first "hit" looked more like a wrap-and-throw... the second hit was MUCH better!

kinda funny yes....but the hit on the punt returner wasn't all that hard....I just love how yahoo screws creates bad headlines to bring in the readers.
    • viewer42  •  7 minutes ago
Haha... The second hit WAS a hit... The tackle was more of an attempt to strip the ball...

My kid plays high school soccer. About a month ago there was a fist fight during the game....between two teammates of the opponent! Right there during the game. 20-30 punches thrown. Even the referees didn't know what to do. Darnedest thing I ever saw.
      • WhatIsWr0ng 36 minutes ago
I am a soccer fan because they actually have the ball in play a lot more during the game than American football. Not good about the fight though. That is not what team sports is about. If the referees didn't know what to do, perhaps they should have been at home, drinking beer, and watching something else.

Probably the best heads up play I saw all day. Elam is about the fundamentals of the game and not the showmanship. Very rare character these days.

HEY AL, I was fine with your comments till u slandered the NAVY. Did u serve in the military, probably not or u wouldn't cut down my brothers in arms. And by the way, your boy Elam did get a 15 yard penalty for hitting LSU ballcarrier out of bounds later in the game, good fundamentals!
