California Area Office

Tribal Advisory Committee

Tribal Advisory Committee

The California Area Tribal Advisory Committee (established in March 1998) provides counsel and guidance to the area director, in accordance with the tribal consultation policy. The Tribal Advisory Committee is comprised of 15 representatives; the area director is the 16th member. The area director appoints four members of the committee to represent each of the following areas:

  • The "unaffiliated" Indian population
  • National Indian Health Board
  • Urban health programs

The remaining 12 members are selected by the California Area Tribal Leaders during the Annual Tribal Leaders Meeting (during which alternate members are also determined) and serve a two-year term. The Tribal Advisory Committee meets quarterly.
