CDC's Injury Center 20th Anniversary:
Ideas for Promoting the 20th Anniversary

You can join in the celebration of the Injury Center’s 20th Anniversary and help raise awareness of the role the Injury Center, partners, communities and individuals can play in preventing injuries and protecting the nation’s health and safety.

Below is a list of suggested events you can use to attract attention and support for injury and violence prevention.  Make sure to work with your local media and use your social media channels to promote your events. See Tips and Tools for Working with the Media and Tips and Tools for Working with Social Media for more information.

  • Plan a Community Town Hall
Host a local town hall meeting to educate community members about injury and violence issues. Invite experts, such as public health officials and professionals, to share additional insights and perspectives. Work with your local media to promote the meeting.
  • Plan a Local Safety Event
Organize a safety event and be sure to involve local health organizations, first responders and health professionals. Demonstrations can address a variety of issues. For example, hold a health fair to discuss elder maltreatment, falls and proper medicine use. Host the event at a senior center or place of worship and hold a panel discussion and prevention presentation.  Work with your local media to promote the event.
  • Post Information on your Web Site
Your organization’s website is likely the first place visitors will go to find information about your activities. Include information about the 20th Anniversary and your events on your website and post the Injury Center 20th Anniversary Button on your web site so visitors can link to the Injury Center web site.
  • Send an email announcement to colleagues and partners
E-mail is still a powerful tool to spread your message. Be sure to include links to the Injury Center website, your website and all your social media site pages (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, etc.) to drive more people to your online networks.
  • Host an Award Ceremony
Host an award ceremony that honors those who are improving the health and safety of your community. Work with your local media to promote the ceremony.
