ANNOUNCEMENTS

Recent DoD issuance standards and templates updates include:

  • September 18: OSD Component requests for MS Word versions of online DoD issuances must be sent to DoDDirectives@whs.mil instead of individual editors

  • September 7: Betty Lynn's Tips has been updated - new SD Form 818 document and training.

  • July 20: Betty Lynn's Tips has been updated - Writing DoD Issuances, Part 2: Mechanics.

  • July 11: The webpages for processing DoD Issuances and processing AI's and DA&M's have been updated with a new visual representation of the issuance process.

  • June 19: The office of the Deputy Secretary of Defense requires that reissued directives include a summary of the changes made. The DoD directive action memo and processing procedures have been updated and a sample is available: Directives_Reissuance_Samples

  • Effective June 15, 2012: DoD issuance standards formatting changed for consistency and per the Plain Writing Act of 2010. Issuances currently in the formal coordination, presignature, or legal sufficiency review stages will not be required to change to the new formatting.   • Effective June 1, 2012: AI/DA&M Processing Procedures have changed. These changes affect all offices within DA&M that develop DoD issuances for DA&M, Director, WHS, or DepSecDef signature

  • May 9: the SD Form 106 has been updated to remove GC, DoD from the list of coordinators as they no longer review during this stage.

  • March 9: the DoD Issuance Numbering System has been updated.


  • MS Word Mysteries: Help on how to turn off autoformatting and create multi-page tables is now available in Supporting Documents under FAQs.

Guidelines for processing DoD issuances that must be in the Federal Register are now available on the DoD Issuances Website. The following forms can be found within the Federal Register tab on the Supporting Documents webpage:

Effective for DoD issuances published on or after March 26, 2012: In accordance with Deputy Secretary of Defense Memorandum, "Improving Department Guidance – Department of Defense Issuances," all new issuances, and all existing issuances when they are next reissued or changed, will expire after 10 years if they have not been reissued or cancelled in accordance with DoD Instruction 5025.01 or granted an extension by the OSD Director of Administration and Management.
