Participates in one of three NASA Pathways Programs. These are formal training programs consisting of specialized training designed to accelerate an employee to the full performance level. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the program. Some programs consist of formal rotational periods of study and work. Program participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress.

NASA Pathways candidates will meet the qualification requirements consistent with NASA and the OPM qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. Where appropriate, candidates will be required to meet NASA's Aeronautics, Scientific, and Technical (AST) qualification standards for the position(s) for which they are applying.

For GS-4: Completion of 1 acaemic year of post-high school study. (The 1 academic year is equivalent of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.)

For GS-5: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree. (The 2 academic years is the equivalent of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours.)

For GS-6: Completion of 3 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree. The 3 academic years is the equivalent of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours.)

For GS-7: Completion of 4 academic years of study (or all the requirements) for bachelor's degree and accepted into a master's program.

For GS-9: Completion of 1 academic year of master's level education or acceptance into a Doctoral Program.

For GS-11: Completion of 1 year of Doctorate Level study or accepted into a Doctoral Program (Research).

The classification of the intern positions (series and grade) will depend upon the field of study and level of coursework of the candidate.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Candidates will be assessed either based solely on basic eligibility requirements or may include a qualitative rating of candidates. NASA Pathways candidates will meet the qualification requirements consistent with the OPM qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. Where appropriate, candidates will be required to meet NASA's Aeronautics, Scientific, and Technical (AST) qualification standards for the position(s) for which they are applying. Veterans' preference applies to all selections made under the Pathways authority in accordance with Part 302 of 5 CFR. Candidates who meet the minimum qualification requirements need not be further evaluated; however, if no further evaluation is done, qualified veterans have absolute preference. If candidates are further evaluated using NASA's category rating process, qualified veterans have absolute preference within the appropriate category.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Any applicant tentatively selected for this position may be required to undergo a pre-employment background investigation.

As a condition of employment, male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law.

Financial Support:
1) Salary at grade level based upon completion of specifed number of academic years
2) Payment of transportation expenses between the duty state and school may be offered
3) Reimbursement for school co-op fee may be offered

Students are eligible to earn annual and sick leave.

For engineering major, must be enrolled at a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

If offered employment by NASA, the student must be enrolled in the school's cooperative education program prior to the start date. If the school does not have a cooperative education program, the intern must provide documentation of good standing.

To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service after completion of the program, an intern must:
1) Be a U.S. Citizen
2) Successfully complete an academic course of study as evidenced by a qualifying degree.
3) Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship program.
4) Meet the OPM qualification standard for the postion to which the Intern may be converted.
5) Maintain acceptable performance under the Agency's approved performance management system.
6) Receive favorable recommendation for conversion from supervisor.

Recent graduates may be converted to full-time employment. To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:

1)Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program
2)Demonstrated successful job performance
3)Meet position specific GPA qualifications
4)Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted
