NHLBI Acting Director Speaks at Lung Diseases Congressional Briefing
On February 29, 2012, Dr. Susan Shurin, Acting Director, NHLBI, spoke at a congressional briefing on pulmonary
hypertension and pulmonary fibrosis. Other speakers included Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX), NHLBI grantees Dr.
Victor Thannickal and Dr. Serpil Erzurum, Ms. Nicole Cooper, Pulmonary Hypertension Association, and Mr. Paul Fogelberg,
Pulmonary Fibrosis Advocates. The briefing was sponsored by the NHLBI, the American Thoracic Society, the Pulmonary
Hypertension Association, the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Advocates, the Pulmonary
Hypertension Clinicians and Researchers, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, and the Pulmonary Hypertension Professional Network.
NHLBI Acting Director Participates in “Go Red for Women” Congressional Reception
On February 4, 2012, Dr. Shurin provided brief remarks at the “Go Red for Women Reception” sponsored by the American
Heart Association to raise awareness about heart disease in women. The reception featured the premiere of Go Red For Women’s
short film “Just a Little Heart Attack” based on the real stories of women affected by heart disease.
