PQA has opened the search for a Director of Performance Measurement & Research.  The Director will play a major role in the development of new medication-related performance measures and will expand PQA’s research efforts related to medication-use quality.  A detailed description of the role  and desired qualifications can be found here: Director of Performance Measurement & Research

PQA 7th Annual Meeting took place on June 13-15, 2012 at the Omni Shoreham, Washington, DC

PQA Recognizes Kaiser Permanente Northwest for Excellence in Medication Safety Based on CMS’ Star Ratings

Kaiser Permanente Northwest Achieves 5-Star Medication Safety Ratings

Kaiser Permanente Northwest  received the PQA 2nd Annual Quality Award at the PQA Annual Meeting on June 14th during the Awards Recognition Program and luncheon.  This award recognized their achievement of a 5-star rating on the PQA measures of medication safety that are included in the CMS Star Rating Program.  The awardee is also required to achieve at least a four-star plan rating overall. This year’s award recipient, Kaiser Permanente Northwest, has achieved a 5-star overall rating.  Laura Cranston, PQA Executive Director presented the award to Nancy Louie Lee, Director, Clinical Pharmacy Services & Clinical Quality Support Services and Sandy Dahl, RPh, Pharmacy Service Area Manager North and West Service Areas for Kaiser Permanente, Northwest.


First in the "Basics" Series:  The Basics of Pharmacy Performance Measurement

 

PQA’s Education Workgroup authored a series of articles on the Basics of Pharmacy Quality Measurement.  The “Basics” Series provides high-level information in an easy to read format to help educate community pharmacists, student pharmacists and other stakeholders about the essentials of quality measurement related to pharmacy.  The articles will be included as a series through the Quality Connection Newsletter as well as distributed to other organizations for publication.  The first of the “Basics” Series is The Basics of Pharmacy Performance Measurement, written by Dr. Donna West-Strum from the University of Mississippi.   Click here for more information.


PQA Announces the Release of the EPIQ Program: a complimentary, turn-key quality improvement program for pharmacists

 

Educating Pharmacy Students and Pharmacists to Improve Quality (EPIQ) is a new quality improvement educational resource to be used by pharmacy faculty and others to educate pharmacy students, pharmacists, and other stakeholders about measuring, reporting, and improving quality in pharmacy practice. This program was developed by the University of Arizona through a grant provided by the PQA. It is available on a CD ROM. For more information about this program, click here.
