Domestic Violence Workshop

This customized workshop provides the student with ways to effectively present the topics of:

  • Domestic Violence Basics - provides refresher information about domestic violence basics while focusing on student-centered learning principles. 
  • Evidence Gathering - provides refresher information about how to take a case to trial without relying on victim testimony while focusing on student-centered learning principles. 
  • Effectively Conduct Interviews - provide skills and techniques to effectively interview victims, suspects, and other witnesses of domestic violence incidents. 
  • Sexual Assault, Stalking, and Strangulation - provide law enforcement officers with fundamental knowledge and techniques necessary to conduct investigations of strangulation cases. Through lecture, and discussion, the students will be able to identify the principles of good investigative techniques that will enable them to better serve the victim’s need for safety, compassion, and professionalism while improving accountability.

Who Should Attend

Applicants must be federal, state, local, campus or tribal criminal justice professionals, law enforcement personnel, or domestic violence advocates from rural jurisdictions.

Eligibility

Preference for admission into this program is given to non-federal law enforcement officers or other emergency responders working in rural areas. “Rural” is defined as any area outside of a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the Office of Management and Budget; or any jurisdiction inside of a MSA located in a county, borough, parish, or land under the jurisdiction of an Indian Tribe with a population of no more than 50,000. Non-rural applicants will be admitted on a space-available basis beginning approximately 35 days prior to the program’s start date.
