Cyber Stalking

Day 1:  Cyber Space:  A Stalker’s New Playground

This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge needed to recognize and establish stalking behavior, access lethality, build a stalking case and increase victim safety.  Students will be introduced to the various cyber surveillance methods, techniques, and tools commonly used by stalkers to include cell phones, social networking, computers, cameras and more.

Day 2: Cyber Stalking Investigation & Evidence Collection (Pre-requisite: Must have taken Cyber Space:  A Stalkers New Playground)

This course is designed to greatly enhance law enforcement's ability to investigate cases where technology is being used to stalk and monitor victims. Participants will learn how to investigate, preserve, and collect evidence in cyber stalking cases.  Venues that can provide a computer lab to accommodate students with internet access or wireless internet access for students to bring their own laptops are preferred.

Who Should Attend

Qualified applicants must be full-time, sworn law enforcement peace officers.

Eligibility

This program is being funded by the FLETC’s Rural Policing Institute. Preference for admission into this program is given to non-federal law enforcement officers or other emergency responders working in rural areas. “Rural” is defined as any area outside of a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the Office of Management and Budget; or any jurisdiction inside of a MSA located in a county, borough, parish or land under the jurisdiction of an Indian Tribe with a population of no more than 50,000. Non-rural applicants may be admitted on a space-available basis beginning approximately 35 days prior to the program’s start date.
