Day 1    Advanced Issues in Domestic Crisis Intervention

This course is designed to enhance the learner’s knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of domestic crisis intervention and create a sound knowledge of best practices regarding domestic violence.  The unit will also enhance coordinated efforts between law enforcement and other service providing agencies. The objectives of this workshop are to:

  • To create an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
  • To enhance system wide understanding of recalcitrant victims.
  • To create a clear understanding of department objectives involving domestic  crisis response.
  • To increase officer knowledge of applicable laws and potential liabilities.
  • To increase investigative skills regarding strangulation and stalking.
  • To improve working relationships from community partners in a coordinated  effort to provide domestic crisis intervention.

Day 2   Sexual Assault Investigations

This 8hr sexual assault investigation course is focused on improving the investigation and prosecution of sexual assault cases. The unique and specific challenges of these cases will be discussed with emphasis on evidence based investigation. The course will combine adult learning methods to include small group discussion and problem solving. Videos, photographs and case examples will be used to enhance the training. The following is a list of training blocks with a short description of the content of the section:
Sexual Assault Dynamics

  • Initial Response (securing the crime scene)
  • Interviewing
  • Investigation Techniques
  • Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault

Who Should Attend

Applicants must be federal, state, local, campus or tribal criminal justice professionals, law enforcement personnel, or domestic violence advocates from rural jurisdictions.

Eligibility

This program is being funded by the FLETC’s Rural Policing Institute. Preference for admission into this program is given to non-federal law enforcement officers or other emergency responders working in rural areas. “Rural” is defined as any area outside of a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the Office of Management and Budget; or any jurisdiction inside of a MSA located in a county, borough, parish, or land under the jurisdiction of an Indian Tribe with a population of no more than 50,000. Non-rural applicants will be admitted on a space-available basis beginning approximately 35 days prior to the program’s start date.
