This instructor development program is designed to increase the effectiveness of those law enforcement professionals tasked with delivering domestic violence related training.

The primary focus of this program is to develop adjunct FLETC instructors who will be required to redeliver this material in their respective jurisdictions. Participants attending this program will learn new and creative ways to present various domestic violence related topics such as Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Officer Safety, Law Enforcement Liability and Determining the Predominant Aggressor.

The students attending this course represent law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy, probation, courts and other law enforcement professionals tasked with training agencies in domestic violence prevention. FLETC will provide the students with all necessary training aids to set up in-service training and regional training in domestic violence.

Who Should Attend

  • Applicants must be state, local, county, campus or tribal criminal justice professionals, law enforcement personnel, or domestic violence advocates.
  • The participants must have prior training in responding to domestic violence crimes and have some experience training these issues. In addition, the participants must represent agencies with needs or anticipated needs for domestic violence training.
  • It is expected that the participant will redeliver this training to secondary students upon completion of the course.

Curriculum

  • Developing effective domestic violence training skills.
  • Making presentations in a classroom setting.
  • Hands-on training on a variety of domestic violence topics.

Tuition and Cost

  • Tuition is FREE for qualified applicants. (See prerequisites below.)
  • Lodging, Meals and travel costs are the responsibility of the students and/or their agencies.

Prerequisites for Attendance

This program is being funded by the FLETC’s Rural Policing Institute. Preference for admission into this program is given to non-federal law enforcement officers or other emergency responders working in rural areas. “Rural” is defined as any area outside of a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the Office of Management and Budget; or any jurisdiction inside of a MSA located in a county, borough, parish or land under the jurisdiction of an Indian Tribe with a population of no more than 50,000. Non-rural applicants will be admitted on a space-available basis approximately 35 days prior to the program’s start date.

  • The best way to register is via the on-line registration system. This system allows you to register at your convenience, change your courses, cancel out of a program, and receive electronic feedback on the status of your request.
  • Create an Account — This will allow you to apply for all training programs. It also lets you track your training once you have applied. After signing up for the account, you will receive a user name and password by email. Then, you will be ready to sign in and request a seat in training programs.
  • Training Account Login — Use this link if you already have a FLETC Training Account.  When registering on-line, qualified attendees should make sure the course they select is an “RPI” training courses in order to ensure they receive free tuition and free lodging where available.
